Musicanta - The School of Music

Piassionate About All Things Music

The Musicanta Family

Chagné Compaan (BMus):  Owner and Principal, Piano, Vocals and

Music Theory

I started piano lessons when I was 7 years old and I haven't stopped thus far as I believe that there is always more to be learned!  I have a Bachelors Degree in Musicology (BMus) from Unisa.  I have had three excellent teachers during my career:  Ms Adri Marais, Ms Maria du Plessis, and Doctor Bertha le Roux, who have all had an immense impact on myself as I explored the world of music.

Music, and especially piano music, is my passion.  I love working with young children and enriching their lives with my music knowledge. I have had many students study under my guidance and those who have done examination, have all passed with merit or distinction.  I always do my utmost best to bring the music talent forth in each individual student by assessing their personal interests and aspirations, and developing their technique and knowledge to a far enough level to enable them to achieve their goals.

Today I am the proud owner and principal of this top class music school.  I, along with my amazing team, strive to give the highest quality music lessons.  My goal in life is to bring music into the lives of as many children and adults as I possibly could!

Cindy Pieterse:  Piano and Music Theory, Personal Assistant to

Chagné Compaan

My journey as a pianist started at the age of eight. Up to date I hold a Grade 6 Piano Practical and a Grade 5 Music Theory grade, but I am studying further to build my own skills. I have passed most of my examinations with distinction, as I believe that anything less would be unacceptable.

I love teaching piano to all ages and at any level, but I particularly enjoy teaching children. I guide them to become the best musicians they could possibly be, while having a lot of fun on the way to reaching their goal.

I strive to be the best teacher my students could ever dream to have and make them reach their full potential, irrelevant of their musical talents.

Adri Botha (BMus): Piano, Violin, Viola and Music Theory

I am a qualified music teacher with a passion for teaching young children. I obtained my Teachers Licentiate in Violin and Organ. I have 40 years of experience in church music as a church organist, and I have been teaching Violin and Piano for 3 decades. I also have extensive experience in orchestral and choir arrangements.

I have accompanied many students since 1973 for exams and Eisteddfod competitions. I am very passionate about music and love to teach students of all ages.  I have traveled the world with my husband, and taught students wherever we found ourselves in the world.  Hence, I have a very broad knowledge of different cultural music and I love to incorporate it into compositions.

I joined the Musicanta team in September 2017.  I am also the founder and conductor of the newly found Musicanta String Ensemble.

Tlhogi Bassman:  Bass Guitar, Acoustic Guitar and Music Theory

My full name is Letlhogonolo Matthews Ndembi, but Tlhogi Bassman is the name I go by.  I am a qualified bass guitarist who obtained a national diploma in music at Central Johannesburg College and also attended school at Ochrim School of Music.

I taught at the South African State Theatre (Mc Art), where my main goal was to teach theory of music and bass guitar from 2011 to 2014.  I also had the privilege to work on various theatre productions. I am currently performing as a session musician for different bands and artists in different genres.

I joined the team at Musicanta in January 2016 to teach Acoustic Guitar and Bass Guitar, along with music theory.  I love to perform, and the stage is my second home.  I love teaching and bringing music into the lives of anybody who has the passion to study Guitar.

Dillon Pieter van der Merwe (BMus): Classical Guitar and Music Theory

I have been a music teacher from 2010, teaching Classic Guitar at Afrikaans Hoër Seunskool and Die Hoërskool Waterkloof. I completed my Bachelor of Music from the University of Pretoria in 2013 specialising in Classical Guitar under Abri Jordaan. I have a passion to work with music students and to learn them new skills.

Wilson Adeosun: Saxophone, Piano, Guitar, Vocals and Music Theory

I picked up the guitar and piano informally at almost the same time in the year 1998. Later in that year, I went to a music school and began classes in music theory and piano, where I emerged the best student the school produced up until that time. In 2004 I took up the saxophone. I have since mastered and taught the three common saxophones in use: Soprano, Alto and Tenor Saxophones.

I have obtained a grade 6 degree in music theory, and a grade 8 degree in piano, both from the Trinity College of London. I also have a grade 8 degree in Tenor Saxophone from ABRSM.  I have since been involved in teaching music theory, Saxophone (Soprano, Alto and Tenor), Piano and Guitar over the last 10 years.

Wimpie Van Wyk - Drums

I started playing drums 18 years ago in church. After high school, I started doing Trinity College of London drum grades to expand my repertoire and started teaching thereafter. From 2010 to 2011 I studied a full time drumming course with the Groove Regulators in Jeffreys Bay.

I have a passion for learning and expanding my skills. I joined the Musicanta team in 2018, to add my expertise in drums to this top class music school.  I love to teach others and help them grow their skills on the most exciting instrument.
